(From Our Travelling Reporter.) Two men named Clement John Francis and H. Boys, who came down the Main Trunk yesterday en route to Stratford, drank not wisely hut too well, and by the time they reached Marton Junction they were both good subjects for the detention that followed their arrival. The men were arrested, and at the Matron Magistrate's Court to-day, they were each charged with drunkenness. A fine of 10s. and costs was imposed upon each by the presiding Justice, Mr. E. J. Wilde. Marton Gun Club field an interesting shoot on Wednesday. 'Messrs. E. Gibbons and Walter Beard tied in the sweepstake.
. There are certain streets in Feilding Borough which are closed to stock, but are frequently used by drovers. The Council has now decided to ask the Auctioneers' Association to draw the attention of drovers to the fact, and that if the notices in certain streets are ignored, the Council intends defining stock routes.
A slight collision Between a motor-car driven by Mr. J. Simpson, of Heaton Park, and the M.A.P. cart driven by Mr. J. McDona_ld, occurred near the Borough Council Chambers, Marton, this morning. Both drivers acted promptly and saved a serious impact. The car just touched the shafts of the cart, but the only damage done was the breaking of the car lamps. (Marton Swimming Baths are to be supplemented by a water-chute and div ing board. The formation of a Swimming Club at Marton is on the tapis just now, ana the Works Committee of the Borougn Council are to be approached as to the management of the baths, and as to whether the free use of the baths can be obtained for a couple of weeks before the official onening. ■Mr'A. McColl, one o"f Kaietieke's County Councillors, had a narrow escape when returning to his home. He was driving over the Retaruke river suspension bridge near his home, when the horse slipped on the decking, and threw him over the side of the bridge. Fortunately he grasped the wire cable, and saved himself & fall of 40 feet or so on to the rocky bed of the stream, which flows between precipitous banks at the place. It* has been decided by the Feilding Borough Council that all school pupils be granted the free use of the baths.
, Feilding Borough Council is desirous of owning a road roller, but the purchase of the machine has been deferred until the duty is taken off.
