LIVES SACRIFICED ON THE RAND. SENSATIONAL ALLEGATIONS. (United Press Association.—Copyright.) CAPETOWN. July 21. A meeting of 3500 was held in tho City Hall at Balmsforth. where a popular Unitarian preacher painted a lurid picture of tho labour conditions on the Rand. Ho alleged that while dividends of 220 per cent, were paid, tho sacredness of human life was lacking. He created a sensation by declaring that since tho war one hundred thousand lives, had been sacrificed. The meeting passed a resolution asking the Imperial Government to inquire into the shooting of women and children.
