WANGANUI EAST BOY SCOUTS.

A meeting of tho Wimganui East Boy Scouts was held last week, and tho district committee, with several friends and'the. officers, presided over ■by Major McNaught, went fully into tho financial position of the troop. It was found that altogether about £15 was owing. But sad faces soon began to broaden with smiles as offers of assistance were forthcoming. One gentleman sent his cheque for £1 with a promise of more if needed, and also promised to fix tiio matter up with his brother solicitor of Christ-church' forthwith^ to relievo the officers of further anxiety. Another friend sent & sovereign, Mr. J. F. Holloway 10s. 6d.. Mr. Gordon Bridges 55., Mr. J. B. Robertson 55., and within a very short time £6 was guaranteed. Mrs. V. Stroobant, of Aramoho Tea Gardens and Zoo, offered to organise an entertainment and danco in aid of the funds. This offer was cordially .accepted! Several apologies for absence and promises of help wero read and thankfully received. It was resolved that the question of the boys purchasing their uniforms be held over for next meeting, also that tho matter of liquidating the debts be loft in tho hands of the district commissioner, commander and inspector, and that they report at next meeting to bo held on Wednesday evening, July 23. Since the above meeting further offers of practical assistance have boen received, notably among thorn being the handsome and welcome gift of £]0 from Mrs. John Duncan. A effeque for the full amount owing Messrs. Strange and Co., of Christchurch, has been sent along. Tho officers take this opportunity of conveying their sincere gratitude to so many friends who have come to their assistance. All Scouts are requested to be on nirado at 7-30 p.m. sharp on Wednesday oven ing, when the officer commanding will furnish n report and issue instructions for future guidance. Tho district committee and officers will meet at 8 p.m. All friorids interested in tho work are cordiaUy invited.
