LADIES' COLUMN.

(By "JOAN.") . Miss Devise-Brown left by the mail train yesterday for Wellington, en route fcr Sydnr.y. Miss Allio Webster, of Napier, is spending a few days in Wangauui. Mrs. and Miss Crawford, of Wellington, are in Wanganui for a few days-' . x

Mrs. Dustin, I am glad to learn, is still improving steadily. Invitations have freen issued for tho Queen "Alexandra 2nd Mounted Rifles Ball, which takes place on Wednesday, August 6th. Tho joint secretaries are doing their utmost to make this ball the event of the season, and a brilliant success is anticipated. Invitations have also been issued to a send-off to Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Larking, who are leaving Wanganui this week for Palmerston North. The function will eventuate - at the Assembly Room this evening, when cards, music and'dancing will be indulged in.

Mr. S. E. Cooper, of Wanganui, leaves for England at the end of tha present month.

Despite the, inclement weather there was a very good attendance at the Wanganui Women's Branch of the Political Reform League. Mrs. Liffiton presided. A very interesting paper was read by Dr. Dunn, and was much appreciated. Mrs. Suisted, the secretary, is to be congratulated on such an interesting method of keeping her nembers together. Afternoon tea was indulged in. and was thoroughly enjoyed, the afternoon being so cold. Thf meeting was on business, lines as well as social. These meetings are being looked forward to by many.

The picture-lovers of Wanganui were treated to a very specially fine programme last evening at the King's Theatre. Zigomar was certainly a very fino film, arid the clever trick film entitled "Invisible Hands" was also screened. These were supported by somo other very good pictures. On Wednesday night at the King's Theatre. Wanganuites will have the opportunity of seeing and hearing "Professor Braemar," hypnotist and mesmerist, in His first appearance here. The professor is an_hypndtic entertainer of great ability. He gave a demonstration of his power as a mesmeriser. hypnotiser and mind reader at Palmerston North just recently, and the pres3 speak of his ability in the three subjects in the highest terms. Many people were turned away from tho entertainment, 'being, unable to gain admittance. Professor Braemar is also able to cure stammering, sv great boon to those who are afflicted by this detriment. The entertainment will be particularly bright and interesting, and it is well to secure seats to avoid disarmointment.

All women interested in babies may bo glad to know that a splendid little book by Dr. Truby King has been issued by the Health Department, and is obtainable free of charge. It contains forty pages of most useful instructions, including at..'!op& list (of "Don't." Country women, especially where no Plunket nurse is easily obtainable, should find this book of trreat value.
