POHONUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
One of the largest and most successful social functions ever held in this district eventuated on the evening of Jill" 18th, when the Upper Turakina Valley Bachelors held their annual ball in 'the Hall. The ballroom .looked exceedingly pretty, decked in native foliage and lighted with Chinese lanterns and lamps decorated with red shades. The floor, too, had been excellently prepared, and when graced by the many dancers, presented a most picturesque spectacle, the many handsome costumes worn by the ladies making a very effetcive display. Music was supplied by Mrs. Howie. Miss Carpenter, Messrs. Harris and McCullough, and Master C. Bowick, and an excellent supper was provided. The adequate arrangements which were responsible for such an enjoyable gathering, reflect groat credit upon the promoters, prneciall- tho honorary secretary, Mr. R. G. Chamberlain who spared no effort to make the affair a success.
