VACCINATION HAVING NO RESULT

IS THE LYMPH INEFFECTIVE?

The vaccination of the Maoris at Patiki dbes not eeem to have been attended by the desired results. It was stated in town yesterday that none of the Maoris vaccinated last week had developen the usual symptoms attending the operation. We do not know whethei the report is correct in regard to tho whole pah, but it is certainly correct in the case of on© family whose condition is now just the same as last week. This means either of two things—that the Putiki Maoris have all got smallpox (in which case the Ivmph would not take effect), or that the lymph was ineffective The latter is no doubt the explanation, just as was the case in Newcastle, where in three hundred cases New Zealand lymph produced no result.
