AUCKLAND DEFEATS WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 19. The Wellington Rugby fifteen played Auckland to-day for the Ranfurly Shield, and suffered defeat by six points —ia penalty goal and an unconverted try—to five points—a converted try. A strong wind blew almost straight down the field, and heavy rain fell almost continuously. Wellington had the wind in the first spell and had Auckland defending most of the time. Tho first try came after thirty-seven minutes' play. Roberts secured from a loose forward rush, and the ball went to. Mackenzie, Kinvig and Mitchison, who beat Mackay. and scored a brilliant try.
