SUGGESTED ACQUISITION BYAUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. .

The Rev Fred Paton, son of the famous pioneer missionary to the New Hebrides, land himself a missionary there, declares that ther© is only one satisfactory way of solving the problem of the control of the islands, namely, buying out the French interests. He estimates that this would cost £250,000 to £300,000, but tho expenditure should b9 regarded "as an insurance. Gince the group in, its'present condition constitutes, a* positive -menace to Australia. .Japanese and' Tpnquinese are pouring into New Caledonia, whence it is easy to go to the New Hebrides. H© suggests that Australia and New; Zealand should combine in the acquisition of the group.
