The extended fninchise naturally contributed to an enlarged electoral roll, and voters to a largo extent exercised their privilege. Mr. Ivnigge, Town Clerk, was the returning officer, and the election was carried through which a hitch, and the returns were given expeditiously. J^or the Mayoralty there were two candidate* Messrs. Miles (solicitor), and Sicely (surveyor), whilst twelve candidates ofrered themselves for the six tavailable seats on the Council, namely Messrs Lewi. Wild. Lloyd.
