Soon after arrival at the farm,; -the general surroundings of which wiug - very pleasant, and gave every evidenca-' of great care, and wisely expended n»on- - cy, the Prime Minister lost no '■kein making himself as well acquainted as possible during hie limited visit, _ with the produeCrve capabilities, ft;*. _ of this State enterprise, and to th:y - end he set out on a visit of inspect! >n,being'accompanied by Mr. Clifton; Mr. Lonsdale, and Mr. Pearoa, M.P. Thelirst important section to claim atten-~. ,tion was the root crops, and the finefield of silver beet, that fed off with such .very satisfactory resulfe. . The - Minister also saw "magnificent : crops 6i ' carrots, swedes and mangolds in variety for testing, also the manurial- experiments. This phase of the work on theiarm undoubtedly appealed to .the Minister for Agriculture, who at once fully - appreciated the value of the experiments. Here, were ten plots open for"" inspection, side by side, the one treat--" ed, and the other untreated. The lat--ter s scanty crop- almost, as it were cried out. for tho manure given to its neighbour, -which, in defiance of unsatisfactory climatic conditions which prevailed during the season, yielded"", magnificent results. The lucerne, which is likely to l»como one <jf the most valuable crops, so far as dairying in.-. tno Dominion is concerned, excited general admiration, but one of the pleasing features of the visit was in connections with the work of the cadets About ereor seven young fellows who intend to* tyqeomo farmers, are now quartered at. J^oumahaki, and the Prime Minister--great pleasure at getting:■exeellent reports as to^ their coiilduot and general good behaviourHo was delighted to learn, ci their industry, and the intelligence they Wei-e----lbowing in the general work' of the..farm.. Clifton, -who is mainly res— ponsiblo for this important innovation, on our State farms, has done a. great deal towards the solving of successfnE farming in the future.
