"THE FOLLIES."

A CAPITAL ENTERTAINMENT. There was a good attendance at the Opsra House last night, wh'en the " Follies" opened, their week's season. As on their previous visit the performance was a'bright and sparkling one, without a dull moment during the whole evening. The company is exceptionally tategnted,,.and each individual and each collective item was a gem of its own. particular class. Mr.- Clifford O'Keefe, who possesses a fine bass voice, sang in the first part, "My Old Shako," and in tie second part "Rocked in the^ Cradle of. the Deep," for each of which he received an imperative encore. Mr. Ken Black and Miss-Iris Edgar sang a, charming little duet, "Canadian Canoe," and had to respond to a recall. Mr. Hugh Steyne, th© humorist of the company, contributed something in the region of six vocal numbers, his "Silly Ass" and "The Spaniard" being perhaps the best of a series of decidedly clever and, in many cases, _origirial items. The humorous recitations "were also very good, especially so "The Mother and her child " A pretty and catchy sextette- rwas "Little Yokohama Girls," and the encore number, Pelissier's arrangement of "Awake," was'also most enjoyable. Miss Cissy O'Keefe, an old favourite, was heard fto advantage in her solo* numbers, "The Toilers," and "Caller Herrin," and eacli earned an encore. Mr. Percy Clifton excels as a. character comedian, and his song. "Captain tringer,' so pleased the audience that ho was recalled twice. The finale to the first part, "The Picnic,'' was a very successful item arranged by the company's pianist, Mr. Ken Black The quartette, "The Blacksmith's Wedding," by Misses O'Keefe and Edgar and Messrs Black and O'Keefe, was ■a iine piece of concerted work, and it is indeed in these concerted items that the company excels; as tJiey work tbwell together and make" no "bid for 'individual success at the expense of the others. Misses Lily and Lulu Lus- ■ sona .two very neat dancerSj presented the "Temptation Rag," an item that, was something superior of its olass, and received a recall. The Royal Pictures showed_ a short programme, including "Th« L*ds Faith V' a fine drama by tlw., Selig Co., and two humorous 'looJshead" films. To-night there will be a change of programme, and the entertainment is one, that is well worth attending. . / ..■■;.■
