IMMIGRATION.
I* To another deputation. Mr Massev spoke plainly about immigration. All iio snid ho had said before. Ho took j opportunity to deny the perfectly ridiculf/us statement that he intends to l-nng oufc h'fty thousand immigrants at on-ro. and at the same time he emphasized the crying need there is for some iaboiir that can apparently only Li supplied by immigration, and he" intimated that tho immigration of desirt\h]j ne-ople of that class would be pushed on. ■ Mr Massey is entirely right. The pity ! is that he cannot, as it was rumoured jh o would, import fifty thousand desirj pble workers at once. The whole oc-un-j cry .is starvirig for domestic •labour, and scarcity of workers is tramelling the agricultural and farming industries all v\ev the Dominion. I have not tho Oghtest doubt that, five thonfiand dore estic servants could be provided with work in Wellington district alone. Here is proof again of the virtual faiilme of the political enfranchisement of woauM-. This is a matter that all women .ire micwslecl in, .and if they chose to oonbine and bring pressure to bear o.i ilie party .in.power "they could have ;>ll the servants they want within a few month-?. But women do not understand or appreciate their opportunities as electors* ?nd' the.ir combined possible power goes entirely to waste.
