PERIENCE
(From our Travelling Reporter.)
WAVERLEY, Jan. 31
A'man named A. J. Cole, employed by Mr H. Harrison at Moeawatea, met with an accident yesterday which nearly lost him his life. He was cutting cocksfoot, when the hook struck a bank, which caused it to penetrate" one of his hands. A very ugly gash, was inflicted, the bone being laid bare, and the bleeding, was severe. In fact, it could not be stopped, iand Mr Cole had to ride between 30 and 40 miles into Wavejley for medical attention. He was very weak from loss of blood when he arrived; he was quite exhausted after his long ride, and had the journey been prolonged by another half Jiour the- injury would probably have;proved fatal. Mr Cole's maimed hand was attended to by Dr Harvey.
