FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Finance Committee reported:— The committee has authorised a loan of £150 from the Sinking Fund Commissioners for one. year at 6 per cent on the security of a quarter of ah acre in Ball St., and a personal guarantee by the ■ party mentioned in the application.—Adopted. GAS COMMITTEE.
The report of the Gas Committee was as follows: —-
Re Mr D. McFarlane's complaint re acceptance of Gardiner and Co.'s tender for Mannesmann's pipes.—The ' committee has considered the same and is of opinion that Mr McFarlane should be informed that the difference between his tender and the accepted one was so great as to make any further reference to his tender inadvisable. Also that the engineer ordered four syphons only at a cost of £6, and these from Tiuain and Co.
R-q vertical retort plant.—The committee report that it interviewed Mr. Hunt, the representative of Messrs. Woodall, Duckham and Co., vertical re-
' torfc buildera. Mr Hunt explained to the committee the method of construction, the saving in labour by the use of this system, also the cost of a complete installation.-—Adopted. WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee reported1:— , Re proposed Durie Hill Etevator.— That Mr Crow be-informed that the Council is prepared to promote the necessary Act of Parliament at the ezpenso of the promoters of the scheme, to bo drawn up by the Borough. Solicitor, and that in the event of" the Bill being passed into law the Council will grant the concession applied for. j Re Premises No. 36 3 Harrison St.— That notice he served requiring the work mentioned <n ■ ' letter of tiio 7th inst. to bo carried out forthwith. ""■ . He Premises Jackson St.—That the Inspector of Nuisances be instructed "to serve a requisition requiring the waste ; pipes being put into a proper state of ! repair, and efficient means provided for ! the discharge of household waste water. ■ Wanganui East's Requirements.-7-The committee recommend, the following: (1) Trees at Durie Estate "gate.-^That the owner be required to cut 'back the i trees to the boundary line. (2) Telegraph pole on the roadway of Shakespeare Road.—That the Department he asked to set this pole back to the footpath line. (3.) Footpaths.—That the Engineer be instructed to put in hand the formation and kerbing. of the footpaths in the district commencing at Ikamoana St. (4) Danger Notice, " Briv<? with Caution," be hung fi'uspended from the railway. bridge 'over the roadway. (5) Lamps.That a lamp bo orectpd at th^ railway bridge in a position so as to light ih« roadway and the footpath. Also that 20 lamps out of the 40 authorised by poll be erected, and that Crs Luxford and1 Thompson confer with Mr Stone ms to the positions where same areio be erected. Churton'. Creek.—That the Engineer eb instructed to make a report on. Churtan Creek generally. Surveying.—That the Engineer be, given general authority to obtain outside assistance in surveying work when required.
Re purchase of Land fronting Great North-Western Road and Parsons St. — That the Council accept Mr Snow's offer to sell for the sum of £125 an .area containing 24.5 perches, provided ho gives an undertaking that he has no right over the strip of land (now the present roadway) bounding the piece to be purchased.—-Adopted.
