NOTES AND COMMENTS.

(BY L.8.W.)

Matters in connection with the Wellington v. Wanganui match seem, to be hanging fire. A little persistent effort on ithe part of the local association' might result in something definite.

: The second Plunket Shield match of the season will commence to-day, when Canterbury play Auckland, the, holders, for the possession of the muchcoveted trophy. In the light of recent performances there is a good chance of Canterl ury once again lifting the shield. Two matches in the Thursday competition will be played to-morrow afternoon, always provided, of course, that '•he weather be favourable. Thursday cuel eters in Wanganui have had .■atrocious luck so far as the weather is con-ctii-t«l, but it is honed that the Fates will l e more kind for the rest of the *>n>cri. -

Saturday t Layers could well take a lesson from the Thursday players, w->o are generally up to time in commencing thoir gamfs.

The new rules adopted by the Association distinctly state that Saturday games must be commenced not later than 2.15 p.m. Yet how is it that the Saturday players do not commence until 2.30, -and sometimes even later than that? There is one team, and one team only, that can really be credited with feeing able to take the Md to time. Last Saturday showed an improvement, and both games would possibly have been commenced by the prescribed time had not the captain of one of the local teams met with -a mishan on the iourr^yvto the ground..-. .
