Mr M. W. P. Lascelles of Hawko's Bay, is. on a visit to Wanga,nui. The following have been appointed Deputy Registrars of Marriages, etc.: Mr George Ormsby (Bulls), and Mr G. V. T. Moore (Rangitikei). Lieut.-Colonel D'Arcy Chaytor ds to be placed on the unattached list on the termination of his period of command of a regiment.
Miss Cruickshank, M.D., who went to AVaimate fifteen yoa'rs ago, and has been anaesthetist at the Public. Hospital ever since without charge, is about to spend a year in the Old Country. She will be tendered a public testimonial. Dr Cruickshank is <a sister of the head of the Wanganui Girls' College.
Miss H. Smith, M.A., and Miss T. D. Meek, B.A , both of Southland Girls' High School and Otago University, have been appointed to the staff of the Methodist Ladies' College, Hawthorne, Melbourne, and they leave New Zealand early next month." Thus the drain upon New Zealand's educational talent goes on.
Cr. Beaven has resigned his seat on the Wanganui Borough Council,' on account of his leaving "the district. In order to obviate the expense attaching to an election to fill the one vacancy, the Council, at Cr Boaven's .suggestion, last evening granted him three months' leave of absence; The election will be h*jd in April, , when the Council will go to the poll.
