Tho movements came to a. climax unexpectedly. The Committee of Union leaders intended to defer the upsetting of Kiiamil's Cabinet until peace had been concluded.

Fifteen, carrying six banners, approached tho Porte. Then Enver Bey joined them, while some dozens of partisans emerged from neighbouring cafes and eventually 150 arrived at the gateway of the Porte, including Talaate Bey and Hadji Bey. During the morning the regular guard at the Porte was mysteriously replaced by troops in sympathy with the Committee of Union. Hadji Bey bared his breast and shout-; ed: "Come and,save the .Fatherland's honrmr, which a traitorous Government, has trodden underfoot. Shoot mo if you will, so that I may bo carried to my grave, as no honour is held to Turkey." Tho shooting, of Nnzim Pasha and the: others followed.

An autopsy revealed that the victims liAd also been stabbed.

Munbaz Bey was notorious in connection with the murders.

Meanwhile, Envoy Bey informed Kiamil Psfiha that h« must either continue the war or resign, otherwise there would bo more bloodshed. Kiamil resigned in preference to continuing the war. The Cabinet was imprisoned until the Grand Vizier arrived. Three Europeans in the waiting room were similarly detained. Leading opponents of the Committee of Union took refuge in the Embassies.
