MINING
The shadow of the holidays seems to have been cast ahead on the Stock Exchange ias far as business in mining shares is concenned, for transactions have been reduced to a minimum, and prices slide to gently downwards that it seems impossible to state what will he bedrock. Thames shares are dull indeed, even Occidental Consolidateds having at last dropped to lid, while YVaitangi Consolidateds failed to move abovo a couple of pence in response to repeated telegrams announcing hauls of picked stone. Saxons and May Queens seem to be entirely neglected, and New Sylvias are slightly easier in price. On Wednesday last the diamond drill in the face of the 1000 ft. level at Thames struck a heavy flow of water. Should this prove to be draining the workings in the Waiatahi mine it will 'be an important matter. On the other hand, if the flow is coming from the Moanatairi slide, it will at least settle the vexed question of the true location of that fault.
