There was an attempted bontfb assassination of. Viscount Hardinge on his State entry into the new capital. Visconnt Hardiuge was wounded, and an attendant killed. The Viceroy's elephant procession left the station, and was passing through Ghandichowk, when a man on a housetop threw a powerful bomb, striking the Viceroy's howdah and wounding him in the shoulder. An attendant holding ian umbrella was killed. The Viceroy was taken to the ■hospital. Lady Eardinge was much fihateexi.
