ANNUAL REPORT.
(United Press Association.—Copyright.) Received 12-20 a.m., December 23. MELBOURNE, December 22. The report of the Postal Department shows thta during the year 566 million letters and postcards passed through the post, an increase of seventy millions. The averago is 95 letters <md postcards per head of the population. Tho report states^ that the Government still strongly favours a State-own-ed Atlantic cable, and advocates calling a conference. New Zealand" approves of co-operation in the matter. Canada is indefinite.
