D.H.S. ENTERTAINMENT
"THE MIDSHIPMITE."
This pretty school operetta, was repeated in the Opera House last night, when a fair audience assembled to enjoy it.*:. The/children showed that they nad not forgotten the parts they did so much credit to a few months ago, both the sung and the spoken parts being well rendered. The role of Midshipmite an/1 that of Dux oT the School wero taken T>y H. Eeynblds and B. Gleeson respectively, and; .both of them did credit to their parts, the other characters being all as'they were on the former occasion. The dancing and singing of tEe fairies on Coral Island was an exceedingly pretty item, and seemed to hav-e been elaborated to koine etxent from the former performance. The niggers created much amusement by their antics and broad humour. The City Band, under Bandmaster Spurdle, very kindly played a .selection., in front of the Opera House, and afterwards contributed the openmg, piece on the rise of the curtain. Tvlrs. Irene Connop, who seems to be a genius in the invention or infproyising. of new and pretty dances, was responsible for the training for the- 'dancing part of the programme",■•and these seamed to give very great satisfaction to the audience. Miss M. Haseltine, who has been doing relieving duty at the D.IT.S. Jor the last three months, kindly and abTy^aeted as accompanist.
v. At the conclusion, of the proceedings, Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P.. moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who h,ad contributed 'towards the success of the very fine entertainment which they liad' all enjoyed so much that* evening. Tht.voto of thanks was carried tjy acclamation. ■ ■-.:■•••
