Tho inquiry into the matter connected with iSt. Helen's Maternity Hospital has been again adjourned. When Mr. Kettle, S.M., sat to open the inquiry to-day, Mrs Emily Nicol, who has made ■a number of charges against the institution, asked for an adjournment in oidcr to procure counsel. The inquiry was adjourned until January 14.
The petition of the residents of Arch Hill Road district in favour of amalgamation with the city of Auckland has been forwarded to the Government. Tho petition contains the signatures of .53 per cent, of the electors.
A Suva cable dated December 18th states that owing to the number rA Indians and natives killed on "the Colonial Sugar Refining Company's tramlines, a Bill providing for better supervision of the traffic has been carried. The company declared that the measure would Rave the effect of stopping the development of the industry. The .Government replied that it-was not to be intimidated. Four elected members left the Chamber as a nrotest.
