MT. LYELL DISASTER ENQUIRY.

At the inquiry. Murray, tho engineer of->the Mt. Lyell mines, gave evidence that it was untrue to say that tho other ways of getting out -of the North Mt. Lyell than, the main shaft Mere blocked. The shift ibosses' instruction-;, whereof the first was the safety of the men, were always the initial consideration. The men had a Grievance Committee, but never had any comnlaints been made.
Curtain, inspector of mines, deposed tl-at he visited the mine three days before the disaster. He travelled by passer; and stones to the 1000 ft level without using the main shaft. The men could have used these means of exit if tho fumes had not overcomo them.
Three miners declared that they tried and found the passes blocked.
