RANGITIKEI NOTES.

THE SIBERIA ESTATE

HOSPITAL MOVEMENT AT MAR-

TON

INSPECTION OF MARTON DAM

THE BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

MASONIC LODGE

(From our Own. Correspondent.)

MARTON, Toy. 29

Surveyors are now. at work on. tho 5000 laoro block at tho Hack of tho Siberia e6ta,te. It _13 understood that 0110 thousand acres will be set aside as a reserve, and the balance cut up into 300 aero sections. It is all in good .bush, and will ultimately make splendid sheep country.

The hospital movement is apparently gaining ground at Marten, and as such i-.n institution is considered to be neceGsary, Dlia matter is, I understand, to be discussed by the Marton Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Laing Meason, consulting engineer to the Marton Borough, arrived by_ the express train from Wellington this evening. Mr Munro Wison, tngineer from Auckland, is expected to arrive by the express to-morrow, and in the afternoon a thorough inspection of tho diam recently damaged .will be made. A staff of men will be engaged pumping in the morning,, so that a proper examination of the country at the bottom iof tho toe wall can he made.

The Beautifying Society 'last season planted fully 210 trees, "including 100 cabbage .palms, on Station read. The trees .are well protected against cattle, but it was thought recently that, a good percentage 'had died. However, I made •a personal examination 'to-day, iand discovered that with the exception of about eight doubtful ones, all a,re living, and healthy new shoots are springing up from the centre. In the years to come this will be a very pleasing 'belt of trees on the Station "road, extending its full length. At a meeting of the Ruapehu Miasonic Lodge last night, Bro. H. J. Cameron gave an interesting iaccount of his visit to other lodges in- the Old Land during his recent tour.

A very sharp_ shock of earthquake was felt this morning at seven minutes to five.

. Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., who has been appointed one of tlie Public Service Commissioners, "will, continue to act as magistrate until the end of the year. FeiTding solicitors extremely regret that Mr. ■ Thomson is leav-intr the bench. '
