PRINTING MACHINISTS' AWARD

The Arbitration Court to-day delivered aft award in connection with letterpress printers -and machinists. The award.stinulates that work in the cities and the larger towns is not to exceed 48 hours weekly, and night shifts must not exceed eight hours each. Journeymen letterpress machinists in these places are awarded a, minimum of £3 5s per week, and i» the smaller places £2 15s, night shift men getting 5s extra. Weekly employers are not bound to pay for holidays, but no deductions can be made from wages except through a worker's sickness or default. Employers to have discretion in the management and arrangement of work and machines. The holidays are New Year's Day, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, King's Birthday, Lahour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, and for machinists printing newspapers on Christmas Day and.Good .Friday. Work on Christmao Day, Good Friday, jand Sundays counts double time, and other holidays time -and a half. Apprentices are to, be paid 10s per week tho first year, l^s the second, 20s the third, 25s"the fourth, 30s the fifth. 40s the sixth, and overtime at 6d per hour the first year, 9d the next throe years, and Is for the fifth and sixth y-eare. The proportion of apprentices to workers is to be one to three or fraction of three. Provision is made for under-rate workers, and preference to Unionists is to ho given. The award comer, into operation on November 18 and expires on the 25th October, 1915.
