AN ELUSIVE PRISONER
HUSTON AGAIN ESCAPES
(Per Press Association.) WHAXGAREI, October 29. Tho prisoner Huston, who was recaptured on Sunday night, was brought injbo Whatngarei yesterday, but^ (again broke gaol last night. He was visited at 11.30, and then, apparently, everything was all right. Ho was thoroughly searched and his boots, braces, and hat taken from him. The examination of the cell showed marvellous ingenuity. The kauri floor, an inch and a half thick, was cut half way through and then forced. The prisoner went through a snaoe of 20in by Sin under tho cell, where he scraped the earth away and got free.
After lie got out he visited McMahoirs Hotel and stole a pair of boots from the corridor. Then he visited tho room of a, boarder and took £3 10s, a pair of braces, and a hat. The police are unable to give any idea of what implement was used, but it appears that a knife or other sharp instrument. Hu.ston is a desperate criminal, and h?.s several convictions against him, both in America and Austria. The police are making a vigilant Kcr.rcli.
