News has boon received by mail that eight cases of plague occurred at Noumea between September 17th and October 17th, comprising one Javanese and 6even kanakas. Five cases proved fatal. The authorities are endeavouring to stamp out the disease. MELBOURNE, October 29. Macartney, the cricketer, has returned. During the voyage his portmanteau was lifled, and jewellery and other articles valued at £100 stolon. A Hobart firm has petitioned for the winding up of the Australian Shipping Company, Melbourne, on the ground that a judgment for £188 11s 9d was ' unsatisfied. The petition has been acI aepted, and an official liquidator appointed.
