A WEEK-END STORM.

Saturday's storm was very severe iv every part of the Island, and in our immediate vicinity it was boisterous and cold enough for anything. Round about the Feilding district, particularly out•Kimbolton way, there was a very heavy fall of snow,' but tho sheep and lambs appear to have com c through tho ordeal well. A severe snap of frost at this late period might well alarm fruitgrowers, but inquiries elicit the fact that no very great damage has been occasioned. Among the tenderest that the gardening fraternity have to nurse at this season of the year arc the tomato plants; but in- the Manawatu even these were not injured to any extent. One big grower at Palmerston states that somo of his young tomato plants were covered by two inches of snow, and he watched the disappearance of the covering with some anxiety. Tho plants, however, show no sign of injury. Jt appears that a fall .of snow is not so severe on plants as an ordinary frost.
