A sensational accident occurred at the level crossing at Clandelands this morning, when a covered motor met a passing train from Cambridge, and a collision occurred, the motor being carried in front of the train and thrown on to the cattle stops and completely smashed. The occupants (D. L. Smith, builder, and his son Charles), were thrown out. Smith, senior, was driving. The elder Smith w,as badly injured about the head and severely shaken. His son had a leg badly injured and it is feared that amputation

but the signal was not regarded. The crossing is recognised as very danger-

ous, and recently an agitation was on foot to provide a subway, which is most necessary, owing to tho danger-

ous nature of the position. The Smiths are well-known and respected inhabitants' of Hamilton. Owing to the expansion of ClandeLands, which has just been inclmled in the borough of Hamilton, traffic must increase in tho near future. '
