TO-DAY LABOUR DAY.
PICNIC AND SPORTS
The Labour Day Celebrations Committee have been working so hard, and with such good result, that it only remains for the weather to be kind in order that the monster picnic and sports to be held on Cook's Gardens this afternoon may be an unqualified success. Excellent entries have been received for tho amateur running and cash cycling: and running events, and the eport should prove very interesting. The Trade Union races, tug-of-war. Fire Brigade events, and the many other items on the very lengthy bill of fare, will help to make up one of the finest day's sport ever held in-Wanganui. It promises to bo a great day for the children, for whom over £15 worth of toys have been secured, besides lollies, fruit, etc., and tho youngsters should have a glorious holiday. Those intending lo patronise the function are reminded that the first event starts at 11 a.m., #■*""• with t the very lengthy programme tt 5© got through there will be no dull mjments from thence on. The day's enjoyment will bo brought to a fitting close with a social and dance in tho Druide' Hall in the evening-
Tho programme to be rendered 'by the City Band at the sports is a, very attractjve one, comprising the popular despriptive selections —"Harvest Home," Sailor's Life." "010 Kentucky," and "Tho Motor Ride," the overtures "Raymond," and "Lo Diademe," "Dollar Princess," and "Over £he Waves;' r marches. Sailor Kinp-." "Invert.nrill," "Union Jack." and "Picador." The cornet solo, "Tho Nightingale," will also be played.'
