A FAMILY'S APPARENT DANGKH
iRRMOVAL TO jSAJFE QUARTERS
The Town Clerk, apprehending danger for* those living nearer the reservoir, and perhaps una-ware of tho catastrophe, lost no time in conveying the information out into the country immediately affected, and accompanied by Mr Marshall (inspector), Mr Scott (se\v-< *rage works) am. Mr Cameron (of the White Hart Hotel), he proceeded' out in a. motor car. The visit was au) made use of as one of investigation to ascertain the extent of the damage.
The trip from Marton did not occasion anything specia', nor were' adventures met with. There was, however, one vast sheet- of water on the low-lying flats, and the bleating of elieep and lambs gave ample demonstration that these animals had sensed danger.
Tho house of Mr William'Hoad, situated near the creamery, appeared'to be in danger of being submerged to a certain extent, and tho family consequently removed to neighbours for safety. The waters, however, after rising to tho front door, quickly receded, and none of tho settlors therefore experienced much inconvenience on account of the disaster.
