MELBOURNE, Oct. 25

A writ" has been issued against the Australian Shipping Co., Melbourne, claiming £9098 in respect of 3.6-1 passengers by the steamer Papanui, which was destroyed by lire on SeuptemJxer.il, 1911, when bound from England to Australia. The passengers were landed on St. Helena island. The Crown agents for the colonies have undertaken the proceedings to recover the cost of forwarding the passengers to their destinations, maintaining them until forwarded, and all necessary cost of bedding and provisions. The case is the first of the kind in Victoria. The writ asks for trial by a judge without a iury.
