"Tho Grit of Women," is given the prido of place, but Sax Rohmen with " Zalat Kiss" is very thrilling. W€ have Ars<>no Lupin again, as mysterious as ever, and I. A~ R. Wylie. in a fine loner novel entitled " The Long Discovoi'v." Frrvl Wliito, Andrew Soutnr, Barry Pain, Captain Shaw, and others also 'contribute.' A veritable feast is tho October "Story-Teller." It may bi> bought for Od 'anywhere. As illustrating; the waywardness of fortune* and the uns and downs of collonial towns, it may be of interest to mention that many years ago tho Bank of New Zealand bought a corner site at Normanby, erected premises and installed a manager. After a few years it was found an unpayable proposition, and the manager was transferred and Normanby was made an agency under Hawcra, whence it was visited by Mr. White, tho then manager. Later the agency was closed and tho premises removed to Stratford, where they were used as the bank's first local banking premises. That was over twenty years since. The bank held on to the Norroanby section, and eventually sold it ,' for a "good deal less than tho cost price.
