SHIPPING FREIGHTS AND FARES.
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE

Tho local agents of the Shaw. Savill and Albion line havo been officially notified that the single third-class fare between New Zealand and London has been raised £2, and the return fare £3. The rate to Monte Video and Rio do Janeiro has been increased by £1. For somo timo single rates to London have stood, at £17. £19 and £21 according to tho class of cabin, and the return at £31. £34 and £37. The new rates come into operation immediately. It is understood the New Zealand Shipping Co. lnr. also .aerreed to the new "rate, but the local office has not yet been notified to that effect by the head office. Shippers and millers engaged in tbo New Zealand hemp industry received lost, evening notice of an increase in freight rates on hemp and tow to the United Kingdom, owing to scarcity of tonnage. The increase per ton are:— Hemp £2 10s. to £3 155.. tow (covpred^ £?• ss. te £4 10s., tow (uncovered) £1 15s. to £6.
