(Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Oct. 24. The Poverty Bay Turf Club opened its Spring meeting at Makaraka in showery weather. The heavy rain of the night before made the going very heavy, and the times were slow. £10,----551 were put through the "tote," as compared with £8529 on ihc\ same day last year. .Results: Trial Cup.—Wee Rose 1, Winning Post 2, Goldemar 3. Also started: — Scorch, Caherdavon, Sylverlyte. Won by three lengths, second horse half a length away. Time 1.21 1-5. Hurdle Race. —Sleacombe 1, Reservoir 2, Game 3. Also started: Strathmoira, Dogger Bank, and Zulu Queen. Won by two lengths, third horse a length away. Time 3.36 2-5. Zulu Queen fell at the last hurdles and Dogger Bank jumpejj^the rails. County Stakes. —Auedern 1, Marangi 2, Fagot 3. Also started: Repeal and Faiti. Won by five lengths. Time 1.22. Spring Handicap.—Loch Maben 1, Sea Pink 2. Birkline 3. Also started : Inez, Multiply, and Spate. Won by a length; same distance between second and third. Time 2.19. First Welter. —Waikehua 1, Leahora, 2, Ardfelt 3. Also started: Haku, Rising Sun. Earl Percy, Colleen Dhu, Omatere, Prestonpans. Won by a length. Time 1.39 1-5. Maiden Scurry.—Lady Alicia 1, Immensity 2, My Lady 3. Flying Handicap.—Monorail 1, Eo- ► optic 2.. Wee Rose 3.
