THE END OF THE SESSION.

ANOTHER FORTNIGHT'S WORK. (By Telegraph.) (Special to "Chronicle.") "Wellington, October 23. Tho timo taken up by the House oi Representatives in discussing tho WardHine incident has undoubtedly postponed the ending of the session, and it it difficult at the moment to forecast witli any certainty the date of prorogation Owing to tho delay that has occurred, any prospect of ending the session in !- Nov. 2nd has become very remote, and tho prospects at the present are thai work will proceed steadily. Tljo definite- conclusion of tho WardHino incident seems to have been recepted by both sides in the House in a smrit of philosophy. When Sir Joseph Ward-and Mr. Hino met this morning they shook hands in a friendly ivav. and tho proceeding?, of the House to-o*iv havo been in strong contrast to the acrimonious debate of yesterday and the day before. At the moment, the House is making fcteady, though not very rapid, progress on tho Land Bill in Committee.' Frj'.n the outset the debate has been quiet in tone, and no trace has appeared of illfeeling between the rival narties. Pa.^v dissension is not likely to operate as a factor in delaying tho prorogation, *o: thero is undoubtedly a strong desiro i i get away on the part of members vll round tho House. The one big feature of the position is the amount of work in hand and ahead, apart from the long list of Bills on the order paper. Afternoons are to be set aside for discussions upon the reports of the Taupo, Totara and Otira tunnel committees and along discussion may be looked for on tho report of the Public Accounts Committee when it has concluded its-inquiry into the- administration of the State Guaranteed Advances Department Still another possible subject of debate is tho report of the Committee which is now inquiring into a petition for redress by Mr. Joshua Jones, of Mokau. It is the general expectation that at least one moro sitting will be occupied in dealing with tho Land Bill, and even should the Government decide to jettison a good deal ot the r/ork in hand, there is little likelihood that the session will conclude in less than a fortnight from tho present date.
