THE TEST OF TIME. Tho test of time is what tells the tale. "A new broom sweeps clean/ but will it "wear well" is what interests most. The public soon find oui when misrepresentations are made, and merit alone will stand the test of time. People appreciate merit, ami years ago local people publicly endorsed Doan's Backaicho Kidney Pills; they do so still. Would anyone make tho statement which follows unless convinced that the article was just as represented? A cure that lasts is the kind that every sufferer from kidnoy ills is looking for. Mrs B. Smythe, "late of 3 Mathoson Street, Wanganui, now living in Hobson Street, Auckland, says :—" I used Doan's Backache Kidney Pills to see if they would nure me of backache and distressing giddiness, and they did. If I stooped down, and then stood up suddenly, the blood would rush to my head, and I would feel a sensation like a stab in my head, and I felt as if I must fall. Besides this, I had a dull pain in the ! small of my back, and a dazzling before my eyes. When I was reading, the ■letters would all seem to be jumbled up. Ono day I read about Doan's Backache Kidney Pills, aftid it seemed that they woro curing cases similar to mine, so I sent for a bottle. Since taking a course of these Pills I have been right in every respect, and I have no fear of my troubles returning. Doan's Backache Kidney Pills are unrivalled for the kidneys." Eight years later, Mrs Smythe says: "Doan's Backache Kidney Pills cured mo of backache and giddiness eight years ago, and I have been quite free of theso ailments ever sin?e." Get DOAN'S, the remedy which Mrs Smythe recommends. There is nothing just as good for backache a-nd kidney trouble as Down's Backache Kidney Pills. TAX THE LEASEHOLDER. - - - i I, —^^fci ■ * AN OPPOSITION SUGGESTION. (By Telegraph.) (Special to "Chronicle.") WELLINGTON. Oct. 22. During tho course of a short speech in the House this afternoon, Mr G. W. Russell, the member for Avon, said he was in favour of taxing the leaseholder. The Hon. Mr. Massey, in the course of a brief reply to the hon. member's remark, said the pease, in perpetuity holders understood ( quifce' well that when they converted their leaseholds they would become liable to land tax. They would not have to pay rent. He believed that 999 out of every thousand would prefer to pay land tax rather than rent. Mr Russell: He will not escape intejest. Mr Masesy: That will depend absolutely on the amount of his capital, but what I was more interested in was another statement of the hon. member. Ho said -nat he was. strongly of opinion that the holder of a leasehold should pay taxation just as the holder of a freehold does. Mr Russell: Why not? Mr Massey: 1 am very clad to hear that the hon. member admits that. Comni£i from the hon. member, I take it t-iai it is part of the policy or the hon. gentlemen who sit on the Opposit:on benches that, in the case of leasehold land, in their opinion it is not enough that leaseholders should pay rent, but that they should pay land tax ns well. An Hon. Member: Who said that? Mr Massoy; Loader number one of tho Opposition Party—(Laughter)— and I can only presume that he is speakimr for the party. (Opposition cries of "No," and "You're wrong.") A Government Member: Tlipv'vo turned him down. (Laughter.) Mr Witty: He had no right to .say that at all. You will be acfviseti to take this and that: but if you have a Cold or a Lough, ,f Influenza or V aS al Trouble of any kind is bothering you, "NAZOL" is the on* thing needful" It cures. Is. fid.
