LABOUR DAY CELEBRATIONS.

Matters in connection with the celebrations on Cook's Gardens on Labour Day are progressing. The final meeting of the committee was held at Hustm's last evening. There was a rorv largo attendance.

The Fresh Food and Ice Co. and the VVangajiui Dairy Co. donated milk for tho use of picnickers. An error was discovered in tho pointing of tho posters in Tegard to the wemht-judgmg competition, and the secretary said he would interview th» Sergeant of Police in connection with tho -mistake, which made the event ;i weight-" guessing" competition. A letter of appreciation is to be sent to the Education Board for the manner in which they have met with the wishes of the committee, and that they be requested to make Labour Day a regulation holiday. One thousand programmes aro to be printed and sold at 3d. each. Dancing events aro not to be reinstated on the programme. Mr. L. J. Furrie and others were appointed to handicap the school events in conjunction with Mr. B. Campion. All post entries are to close half an hour before the time of starting these events.

Tho Plumbers' Union donated half a guinea, which was received with thanks. Mr. Crawford was asked to act on the committee, and also to be Jissistan;,secrotary at the snorts.

Major McNanght and Captain Roberts waited on the committee and placed Meforo it tho question of entertaining: tho visiting Canadian and New Zealand Cadets, and requested that a small -donation bo made towards tho fund for entertaining the Cadets, and in turn tho New Zealanders would visit the sports and give a performance of physical exercises, etc. A donation, tho amount of which is to be decided upon at tho conclusion of the sports, is to be, made.

Other matters in connection with tho sports and the concert and dance in tho Druids' Hall, were settled, and tha meeting adjourned.
