NEW YORK, October 21
Jack Johnson narrowly escaped lynching at the hands of an infuriated mob when it was known that he was charged ■with a-bdueting a white girl. He is now closely guarded by the police. A race war is feared in consequence of the illfeeling generated by his arrest.
