AUCKLAND, Oct. 22
Tho "Herald's" snoci-al reporter at Huntly telegraphs to the effect that tho suspense is telling on a certain section of tho idle miners. Up to the present tho men have been most orderly, mis afternoon a pressman was walking inoffensively along the main road, and pausing in front of the executive's offico to ascertain if any messages were posted up. Suddenly, a minor, said to be an Austrian, stepped forward and said to the pressman in i an angry tone .- " Would you like a dip in the river?" "Xo, thank you," responded the pressman, firmly. * "Then," | persisted the .striker. 1 will — well throw you in." With that he made for tho pressman with clenched hands. but was prevented from reaching the objoc-t of his wrath by tho union secretary, and others, while tho pressman slowly walked away. Early in the afternoon the arbitration advocate was interfered with, one j cf the strikers catching him by the coat and others endeavouring to jostle him. On this occasion the secretary also interfered.
A movement in favour of a now union ;s growing apace.
