transferred at 39s 3d, but New Zealand Crown still hangs round about 2s. A better report from the Waitangi mine did not cause these shares to sell above 10|d, and the fact that moro picked stone was reported from the New Sylvia, mine did not affect the pneo of shares in that company. Consequently business has been rather quiet.
At tho Occidental^ the reef stripped in tho winze was broken down and dat)s oi gold were seen in the quartz. The reef is still going down strong and looks very promising. Ten pounds of goo.l picked stono was won from the third stopo and also a little from the second one.
Tho Thames big pump had to suspend operations temporarily pending further necessary repairs. Before long boring should be proceeded with in the face of tho main crosscut at 1,000 feet, the use of tho Government drill being granted. At the Dominion tho hard T>?.r i* tho low level has been passed through, and the drive will vow be closely tmbered up while the fault is iiassod through. Tho main drive at tho Waitangi Consolidated has been stopped for tho present, as tho contractors have been engaged crosseutting north and south to locato other branches of the reef, which havo now been proved to exist. Tho north crosscut was put in 18 feet, the last 3 feet being in heavily mineralised quartz, and thero is still quartz showing in the face, but no frea gold wsin ecen. Tho south crosscut was put m 36 feet. Another body of ore was cut from 12 to 18 inches in width at 23 feet from the main drive. A promising looking leader .was also cut at 32 feet from tho main drive. Although no gold was seen in tho leader, it carries favourable minerals, and quartz is still showing in the face.
At the Watchman colours of gold aic seen in the reef, and all the stone broken out from tho north rise is boing saved for treatment. As the 20 feet level is drawing No. 1 winze tho sinking of the .latter will bo resumed and tho reef developed from that point. Tho parallel reef is 4 feet wide m the south face, and gold can be see-n freely. In tho north face the reef is working bigger, and in the'drive it is now five feet wide without any walls being in view-. Thiso face also show colours of gold. A fair amount of storio is being wort from the stope on the western parallel reer.
At tho Waitala-Kup.otunu the reef is 12 inches wido in the face and is much stronger than it was in the leading stopo at this point, while the ore is. good errado and -shows gold freely. The reef in tin. 3 stono has been, very consistent nnd has carried good ore right along. The battery is working smoothly nnrl tho oro is reported to bo shaping well
A. smp.Tl orten cut has been started at the mouth of Corbett's level at tbfl Golden Cross mine, and a. portion of tho ore won is being sent to tho mill.
