VICTORIA COLLEGE.
A DEPUTATION TO THE HON. J
ALLEN
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, October 8. The Minister of Education (the Hon. J. Allen) received a deputation to-day on the subject of the direct representation of the Professorial Board on tho Victoria College Council. The deputation was introduced by Mr. W. H. D. Beft, M.P. Professor Easterner said the deputation represented tho various bodies which sympathised with the idea that professional representation is absolutely necessary in the life of any College upon its governing body. They congratulated tho Minister on giving direct representation to tho professorial board on the Auckland College Council. The arguments were so strong in that resneot that he did not feel he need press that point. What the deputation did feel was that it was absolutely necessary that they should press for a similar Bill being brought down on behalf of Victoria College.
The Minister replied that he was in <'ntiro sympathy with the desires of the deputation, but at this period of the session he did not think such a measure could be got through this year. In regard to the Auckland Bill, there was unanimity on the Council; but that state of things did not exist in connection with tho Victoria College Council. If the deputation could convert the Victori?, College Council to its views it would make the, task of putting tho Bill through very much easier.
