ATTITUDE OF WATERSIDE WORKERS.

AUCKLAND, October 8. Thero is still apparently a great lack o± unanimity among waterside workers regarding the 24 hours' strike, which starts at midnight to-morrow and terminates on Thursday night at the same time. Some of the men have ooenly stated that they, will flout the Federation's request, and will continue working as usual. A good deal depends on the meeting, which las been called on tho request of the arbitrationists, for to-morrow morning, as until the gathering takes place it will be very difficult to obtain any definite indication of tin* extent of the.opposition to the "red Fed." There is, of course, a likelihood that in the event of the Federationists showing a preponderance of numbers many members of the Union with antistrike leanings will go over to them. It is not anticipated that the cessation of work will mean very serious disorganisation to shipping in port.
