At dawn Everywoman joins her maids, and, woman-like, gazes into tho mirror wherein she perceives richly clad, the courtier Sir Flattery, who telling; the maids that he is the. Herald of the King of Love, -.invites Every- ■ woman to his bright domain. Truth I and Nobody warn the heroine of the 1 daiige", but Youth urges her to seek Kins Love at the theatres. The next canticlo shows the stage of a New York ' theatre, where Everywoman,; now the ?tar, has her companions; Beauty, i Youth, and Modr.sty. The manager quickly decides that Modesty is not suitable for theatre life, and as she hesitates vo leave the building, she is imprisoned in a stage, rock. Everywoman, now risen from a lowly oedesI tal. now has for her companions. Wealth ! and Witless, but amidst all these distractions she is still intent upon her. nilgrimago in quest of love. A dramat'c «cone depicts Passion, gorgeously clad in crimson, srarbed as a highwayman, laying seigo in song and vows to her heart. Evervwoman his all but fallen under tho influence of Passion, when th? imprisoned Modesty cries ."Everywoman. fare thee well."' Everywoman. brought to her senses, dramatically denounces Pns-sion fo" his falseI ness. At the midnight luxurious sunner given by the heroine. Age joins tho supper party. During the. -orgrio Conscience, calls Evervwomnu to the couch of Bea"tv.. who iM^s a few minutes Inter. Horrified Every womnn turns to her mirror and ceeS/Yo'itb showing signs; iof ioi.ning Beauty. Uplifting a.chamI papne bottle she smashes the mirror I. and falls senseless to the ground attended by Conscience, though Wealth, r Witless-, and the other hanarers-on, de- ! sert her. Next scene shows New Year's Evo festivities. Every woman is now brought to poverty. Wealth sneer?, i Witless .starts, at her. Time has now > claimed Youth.
