WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tlie monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council was held yesterday forenoon, there being present Councillors W. J. Poison (chairman), Whiteman, Allen, Higgie, Fletcher and Collier.

Minutes. —The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Wangaehu Contract.—The Engineer reported that the contract at Wangaehu bridge was completed satisfactorily, and certified that the contractor, Mr Christie, was entitled to the payment of the contract price.—Adopted!

Accounts. —-A number of accounts were passed for payment.

Ambulance.—A communication from the Wanganui Borough Council re the handing over the control of the ambulance to the Hospital Board was left in Cr Fletcher's hands, he to report to next meeting.

Claim. —Mr Ross forwarded a claim for £10, alleged to be the amount of damage done to his launch, the Benares, through it coming into collision with the punt at Upokongaro. TKe collision w.aa said to be due to the fact that there was no light on the punt.— Left in Cr Allen's hands, with power to act.

Upokongaro Ferry. —The committee appointed to inquire into the scale of charges to be fixed for the Upokongaro ferry forwarded their report. Cr Hdggie moved that the ferry be given three months' trial on the charges made in the report, and if after that it did not pay, the Waitotara County Council.to be asked to contribute towards the ferry, and if they decline, the ferry to be closed down. Cr Fletcher suggested that the time be extended to six months, and Cr Higgie fell in with this suggestion; and the motion in its amended form was carrier!.
