YESTERDAY'S PLAY

Play was resumed again yesterday morning, and throughout the day beautiful weather favoured the sport. It was unfortunate that rain set in on Tuesday morning, otherwise the tournament would have been brought to a close on that day. At tho conclusion of play on Monday evening 13 gamese only remained to be played to conclude the tournament.

Tho best match yesterday was that between the Powdrell Brothers and Addison and Butterworth for the final of the Men's Championship Doubles. After the first set had been won by Powdrell Brothers, 6 love, this championship looked a certainty to go to Taranaki, but the local players turned the etables in tho next sect, winning it 6-2. The final set brought out some good play, but Butterworth and Addison proved a little too good for their opponents, winning the third set and the match 6-4. This championship, therefore, is left in Wanganui.

Following arc the results:— Ladies' Handicap Singles (final). — Miss Simoson (2) beat Mrs Gordon (5) 40-37.

Men's Championship Singles (semifinal). —A. Powdrell beat Addison 6-2, G-2.

Men's Championship Doubles (final). —Addison and Butterworth beat Powdre.ll Bros. 0-6. 6-2, 6-1.

Combined Championships.—l>r Ear: and Miss Wilson beat Addison and MiCave 9-6.

Combined Handicaps —Mr and M Powdrell (6) beat Holland and Mi Rountree (23) 50-48: Williams and M:. G-ovott forfeited to Mr and Mrs Po. drell.

COMPLETED RESULTS

The results ud to date are: —

Ladies' Championship Singles.— Won by Miss Simpson (Wellington); runnerup Mrs Jones (Patea.) Ladies' Championship Doubles. —Winners Mrs Hesse and Miss Cave (Wanganui) ; runners-up Miss Wilson (Bulls) and Miss Simpson (Wellington). Ladies' Handicap Singles. —Won by Miss Simpson (Wellington), handicap 2; runner-up Mrs Gordon (Wanganui), handicap 5.

Ladies' Handicap Doubles. —Winners Mrs Gordon (Wanganui) and Mrs Jones (Patea); runners-up Mrs Hesse and Mrs Cave (Wanganui). Men's Championship Doubles. —Winners, Butterworth and Addison (Wanganui) j runners-up Powdrell Bros. (Patea). Men's Handicap Singles (B Grade). — Won by Dr Gregg, handicap 20 (Wanganui) ; runner-up W. Jones, scratch (Patea). Men's Handicap Doubles. —Won by Crawshaw and Hedditch (Stratford); runners-up Izard and Harrison (Wanganui).

Men's Handicap Singles (A Grade). — Is to be fought out at a, later date by Crawshaw, of Stratford, and F. Jones, of Wanganui.

There remain, then, three events uncomoleted. —

1. Combined Handicap Doubles, in which. Addison and Miss Cave play Clark and Mrs Gordon.

2. Combined Championship Doubles, in which Dr Earle and Miss Wilson play Clark and Mrs Gordon.

Those two matches are semi-finals, and in each event the winners meet Mr. and Mrs A. Pcwdrell in the final. To conclude the tournament, Mr and Mrs Powdrell, who left yesterday for Patea, will return on Saturday and meet tho winners in the finals, weather ingThe other uncompleted event is the Men's Championship Singles, which will bo played on Saturday next between H. M. Buttorworth, of Wanganui. and A. Powdrell, of Patea. Considerable interest is being taken in the meeting of these two well-known players, and tennis adherents expect to see some good piay. The match is to be the best of three advantage sets.

The players interested in the semifinals of the two combined events are notified that they must play off. before Saturday in order that the winners may meet Mr and Mrs Powdrell on that clay. As the latter wish to leave by the 3.50 train again for Patea, one combined final will be played on Saturday morning.

Butter worth meets A. Powdrell at 1 p.m., and the other combined match will take place immediately afterwards

To add interest to Saturday's play it is possible that- a series of matches may he arranged for Wanganui club players. Anyone interested please communicate with Mr J. Harrison.

A gold bangle was found on the courts on Monday last. The- owner can havo same by applying to Mr A. Haworth. All those wfio had season tickets to dispose of are asked to account to Mr Haworth as early as possible.
