WANGANUI COLLEGE v WELLINGTON COLLEGE.
WELLINGTON WINS
I COLLAPSE OF THE VISITORS
The following detailed report of I the above game is culled from the
"Dominion"
When the match between Welling- j . ton College and the Wanganui Col- \ ■ legiate School was resumed on the College green on Saturday, it certainly appeared as if Wanganui had ; ' a comparatively easy task in front' of them to gain victory, but the I . "glorious uncertainty" is ever pres-, ent to lend its charm to cricket, and this match furnished one of those instances which make the premier sum- ; mer game so attractive, either to play or to watch. Wellington College had put on an aggregate of 32 5 runs in two innings, i while the visitors, who had scored j 162 runs in their first essay, had one ;' wicket down for 89 runs in the i second, and thus required only 75 runs to win, and nine wickets to fall. , ! The task, however, proved beyond j them. Two of the local bcwlers —, Childs and Beard —were apparently in capital form and the two not-out! men were quickly disposed of. The r fall of the Wanganui wickets thereafter was fast. Of the remainder, Abraham was the only one to make any showing against the bowling but, when his score had reached 21, he I was clean bowled by Beard. The innings closed for 138 runs,,and Wei- j lington 'won, in rather surprising fashion, by 25 runs. Details are appended:—■ WELLINGTON.—First Innings.
