There is a possibility of a second ballot in South Christchurch. Mr Ell has only polled 189 votes in excess of tho absolute majority of valid votes, and 45 absent voters' permits wore issued. In addition, there were 10t> informal, votes cast. Thoro is also some likelihood of a second ballot in Christchurch East being between .Thacker and Hunter, instead of between Thacker and l)avey. Of tho. total number of—tfbsent voters' permits issued, the Returning Officer has received ■ 73,. and it is possible, these may contain .sufficient votes for Hunter to place him second on., tjjje: poll. A scrutiny of tho Chi-istchurcli East roll and a count takes -place to-morrow.
