STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN

(United Press Association. —Copyright.) MELBOURNE, .December 8. At the annual meeting of the Kauri Timber Company the report was adopted. The chairman stated that since the close of the financial year tho company had a fair quantity of fresh bush, which would absorb somo ~of the cash in hand. Referring to the recent alterations in tho tariff, the effect would be to raise tho price of butter boxes. As to producing better grades for tho butter business, they woujd be compelled to mako a large quantity suitable only for fruit cases." If the market for this class were restricted or the taxes were heavy tho price for the bettr classes would have to be raised to compensate for the loss of tho lower grades. The outlook for tho current year was encouraging, and there wero good inquiries for forward business. The company expected to pay a. half-yearly dividend in June.
