POULTRY FARMING LOSSES AND STAGE FAILURE.
LONDON, September G. Tho Earl of Yarmouth told in tho London Bankruptcy Court yesterday an interesting story of his varied career and his struggle "to live on £300 a ;op.r. Tn IS9-I. his father, the Marquis of Hertford paid his debts for him from the proceeds of che sale of heirlooms. Those included Sir Joshua Reynolds' "Bh;o Lady" which realised £4,000, and a Gainsborough.
Tn 1900 the Marquis' of Hertford naain paid 10s. in the pound for him, tho sum required amounting to more than -£o,000". The Earl of Yarmouth then assigned everything to his father, and received an allowance of £300 a ■••■ear.
After endeavouring to earn a living in Queensland, he went to New York, where he became an actor. There he met and married Miss Alice Thaw, the clan^'tor of a Pennsylvania millionaire*' This increased his income to £1.300 a year, but the £1,000 allow-c-rl him by Ills wife was stopped when the marriage was annulled in 1907. So ho set up as a poultry farmer at Bourno End. Like his other ventures, this avhs unsuccessful and he also lost iCI.-'iOO last year in producing a farmyard piny called "The Pigeon House" at tW Court Theatre. His present deficiency is G18.53J3. He f/;.;ve promissory notes for £17,500 to seven moneylenders, and for these, he declared, he only received £4,451, the balance 'being applied to "interest, a.inmissions, costs, and premiums."
